Climb to the top of Akragon
The Technikon is known as one of architect Hugh Maaskant’s most outspoken but also controversial designs. More than fifty years after its completion, the former school complex still has a dominant place in Rotterdam’s cityscape. Yet a lot has changed in recent years. During this morning walk we will delve into the more recent developments and new functions of the Technikon and Akragon. We visit the large Water Square that was realized in 2013: an accessible meeting space and temporary basin for water collection during extreme rainfall. We also take a look at the top of Akragon, the former gymnastics tower that now houses the bouldering hall “Beest Boulders” with stunning views of the city.
