Much in the Lloydkwartier reminds us of the infamous past of this old port area. In the 17th century it was still part of former Delfshaven and the centre for trading in slaves, weapons and liquor. When the busy activities of trading left the area for the ports of Rotterdam South, space arose for new activities. Many old company buildings and lofts can still be seen today as transformed office space and houses, that give the area a unique character. With the arrival of the Scheepvaart en Transport College the area had its own architectural icon.
