De Kaai: From Factory to Neighbourhood

This former Unilever factory is situated in a prominent spot on the bend of the river. The gigantic peanut butter pots are a reminder of its productive past. The margarine factory opened here in the late 19th century and operated for over 130 years. The area is now being transformed into a fully-fledged residential neighbourhood, with over 1,000 new homes, amenities and green quays. During the tour of the factory, you will hear about its rich history, and Mecanoo Architects will present their plans for the future of the Kaai.
